Free-agent QB Carson Wentz (Commanders) plans to continue his playing career and is open to various roles in order to help a team.
Huddle Up: Wentz probably will not be able to find a starting job for a team but likely can be a backup quarterback for several teams. He can be avoided in fantasy leagues unless he becomes a starter.

Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz was released Monday, Feb. 27.
Huddle Up: Per ESPN's Field Yates, Washington will clear $26,176,470 in cap space by releasing Wentz. The move leaves expected starter Sam Howell and impending free-agent Taylor Heinicke as the only quarterbacks on the current roster. Wentz is almost certain to land on his feet somewhere, but his career is very much at a crossroads having already played for three teams in the last three years. It is quite likely he will have to settle for a backup job for the foreseeable future.

Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz likely will be released this offseason because the team can create around $26 million in salary cap space if he is cut.
Huddle Up: Wentz probably will have a hard time finding a starting job this offseason after his last two seasons, but fantasy players can monitor the situation. He would be a low-end No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he starts for a team.

Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz is likely to be cut during the offseason, in the opinion of FOX Sports' Ralph Vacchiano, who notes that Wentz is due a $6.2 million roster bonus and would count $26.2 million against the cap if he were on the roster in 2023.

Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz completed 16-of-28 passes for 143 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions in Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns, while adding seven rushing yards and a touchdown on three attempts.

Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz was named the starter for Week 17 with QB Taylor Heinicke going to the bench.
Huddle Up: Wentz offers very little in terms of fantasy and is just a depth piece in two-QB leagues.

Washington Commanders QBs Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke both displayed "positives" in Week 16 against the San Francisco 49ers, leaving the team in a position where it has yet to decide which one will start in Week 17 versus the Cleveland Browns. Rivera told reporters that he expects to announce the starter Wednesday, Dec. 28.
Huddle Up: It seems as though Rivera has been waiting for an opportunity to go back to Wentz in recent weeks, especially in light of the team's current three-game winless streak (0-2-1). Heinicke has proven to be a capable starting quarterback in the league - albeit with limited upside - while Wentz's aggressiveness tends to lead to more volatility. Expect Wentz to get the nod as the Commanders continue to fight for their playoff lives with two weeks left to go in the regular season.

Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz replaced QB Taylor Heinicke in Week 16, but after the game, head coach Ron Rivera said a decision hasn't been made on which quarterback will start going forward. "It's not going to be a knee-jerk," Rivera said. "It's going to be something, at the end of the day, I really do believe gives us the best chance to win football games, get into the playoffs and see what happens."
Huddle Up: Regardless of who ends up under center for Washington in Week 17, fantasy owners should look elsewhere for help at the quarterback position.

Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz completed 12-of-16 passes for 123 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in a relief appearance in Week 16 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Huddle Up: It's uncertain if the switch to Wentz is going to be something which carries into Week 17, but Taylor Heinicke turned it over twice with a pick and fumble lost, so head coach Ron Rivera might have seen enough. Whomever starts for Washington is only worth a look as a low-end QB2 in most fantasy leagues, especially at this critical juncture of the season.

Washington Commanders QB Taylor Heinicke was benched in the fourth quarter of the Week 16 game against the San Francisco 49ers. He completed 13-of-18 passes for 166 yards, two touchdowns, one interception and one fumble lost. He was replaced by QB Carson Wentz.
Huddle Up: There were reports that Heinicke could be benched, and it happened after he threw a pick-six in the fourth quarter. It seems we could see Wentz for the final two games of the regular season.
