Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon was released by the team on Friday, March 6.
Huddle Up: This is a move that was expected following the team's acquisition of David Montgomery from the Detroit Lions. Mixon will look to heal up and sign elsewhere now, though his fantasy value remains non-existent until he lands with a team.

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon is expected to be released this offseason, according to KPRC's Aaron Wilson. General manager Nick Caserio also disclosed that Mixon underwent offseason surgery.
Huddle Up: Mixon, coming off an offseason surgery, will be expected to have a limited market. Fantasy players will likely have to hold off before figuring out what he can be for their team in 2026.

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon could be cut this offseason, in the opinion of NFL.com's Matt Okada.
Huddle Up: Mixon has been dealing with injuries, and if he is cut, he will perhaps find his footing elsewhere. Regardless, he shouldn't have singificant fantasy investment for the 2026 season.

Updating previous reports, Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (foot) missed the entire season with a medical condition that didn't improve, according to general manager Nick Caserio. "He wasn't doing anything irresponsible. It was a freak thing," Caserio said.
Huddle Up: Mixon turns 30 in July, and it's unlikely he'll be an option in fantasy next season - possibly ever. Woody Marks was the RB34 the last five weeks of the season in PPR leagues. He certainly showed he's a capable runner, but Houston is likely going to shore the position up to at least bring in competition. Marks will be an RB3 target for now.

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (foot) might not play in the NFL again, according to ESPN's Aaron Schatz, who writes that Mixon's "career might be over" after the veteran missed all of the 2025 season dealing with a foot injury.

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (foot) isn't expected to play this season.
Huddle Up: Woody Marks pushed ahead of Nick Chubb over the last couple of weeks. Marks has 32 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown combined the last two weeks and will be a low-end RB2 against the Buffalo Bills Thursday night.

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) could provide clarity on his status in the next month, according to general manager Nick Caserio. Caserio was non-committal on if Mixon will play this year.
Huddle Up: Several league sources doubt Mixon will play this year, and another source said the team isn't planning on him contributing at all this year. He should remain stashed on IR if possible, but it seems like Nick Chubb has some runway. He's the RB28 in non-PPR formats and will continue to be a flex candidate.

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (foot) is not ready to return to the field at this point, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. Mixon is currently on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list.
Huddle Up: Mixon has been dealing with the injury since the offseason and does not have a definite timetable for his return. Nick Chubb has been receiving a majority of the carries, but Woody Marks saw a big role in the offense in Week 4. Both Chubbs and Marks will continue to see touches in the offense and can be flex options in leagues.

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (foot) will be evaluated after he sits out the first four games of the season, but general manager Nick Caserio indicated there is no guarantee that Mixon will be ready to play at that point.
Huddle Up: Mixon has been placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list, so the earliest he can return to the lineup is October. Fantasy players will need to monitor the situation because he is the starter when healthy and can be a starting fantasy option. Nick Chubb and Dameon Pierce should both see plenty of playing time while Mixon is out but may only be flex option in leagues.
