Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard will be used as more than just a third-down back moving forward, according to head coach Dave Canales. "And especially because of how he's looked in the last couple of weeks, he's looked really strong, really powerful, and just making sure that he's a weapon for us in different ways."
Huddle Up: After logging 21 total touches combined from Week 9 through Week 12, Hubbard saw 19 touches in Week 13 alone, just one fewer than Rico Dowdle. Canales apparently liked what he saw with the balanced attack and is planning to utilize the approach moving forward. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, the Panthers are on bye in Week 14, so the first chance to see how touches are divided will come at a pivotal point in the fantasy season.

Carolina Panthers RB Rico Dowdle will be utilized heavily on early downs, but the Panthers intend to use both he and RB Chuba Hubbard in a balanced rushing attack, according to head coach Dave Canales. "And for Rico, you know, giving him the lion's share of some of those first and second down, those early series and all that is a great way to just get him the ball."
Huddle Up: Dowdle's efficiency has dipped in recent weeks, and he has been held below 60 rushing yards in four straight games. He has logged at least 20 touches in three of those games, but it sounds like the Panthers will aim for a more balanced approach between Dowdle and Hubbard when the team returns to action in Week 15. Dowdle's ceiling will likely suffer as a result, creating unwanted question marks for fantasy owners at a critical point in the season.

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard rushed 17 times for 83 yards in Week 13 against the Los Angeles Rams, while adding two receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown on two targets.
Huddle Up: Hubbard admitted he wasn't quite 100 percent when he returned from a calf injury, and he had been picking up scraps behind Rico Dowdle. However, the latter has tailed off in recent games, so Hubbard saw a larger role in the offense in Week 13 and he took advantage of the opportunity. He should be treated as a RB3 or flex fantasy option with upside heading into Week 15 once the team returns from a bye.

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard had three carries for 16 yards, along with four receptions for 27 yards, in Week 12 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Huddle Up: Good news, this was Hubbard's best game since he was replaced as lead back by Rico Dowdle. Bad news, this was Hubbard's best game since he was replaced as lead back by Rico Dowdle. The veteran is only seeing a handful of opportunities each week, and when 43 yards is the most he's mustered in the month of November, you know his value is only as roster depth and/or a handcuff for Dowdle owners.

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard posted four carries for 21 yards in Week 11 against the Atlanta Falcons, while adding a 7-yard grab on three targets.
Huddle Up: Hubbard averaged 5.3 yards per carry (YPC) on limited touches, while Rico Dowdle averaged 2.4 YPC on 19 totes. It wouldn't be surprising to see Hubbard regain some of his lost touches, as Dowdle has struggled as the workhorse in the past couple of games. However, keep Hubbard reserved in all fantasy leagues until he starts to see about 10-15 touches per game again.

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard rushed three times for 14 yards in Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints, while adding a 1-yard catch on his only reception and target.
Huddle Up: Hubbard had 4.7 yards per carry (YPC), while Rico Dowdle managed just 2.9 YPC on his 18 carries, although he did score a touchdown. Hubbard was relegated to reserve status two weeks ago, and last Sunday it looked like a good move. This week, Hubbard outproduced Dowdle in yards per carry, but it isn't likely to make head coach Dave Canales reconsider the move just yet. However, if we continues to see Hubbard outgained Dowdle in yards per carry, it could re-open the competition. Keep Hubbard on your fantasy roster, but keep him reserved for now.

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard rushed five times for just 17 yards in Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers, and he did not have a catch on just a single target.
Huddle Up: As expected, Hubbard was operating as the clear-cut backup, while the team rolled with Rico Dowdle as the workhorse. The team wasn't disappointed, as Dowdle posted 130 rushing yards and two scores against a previously top-5 rushing defense on the road. Based on this showing, you can expect Dowdle to be the top back again in Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints, with Hubbard only providing an occasional breather. His fantasy value is in the toilet right now.

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard has rotated with RB Rico Dowdle in two games since returning from a calf injury. Head coach Dave Canales appears ready to abandon the rotation in favor of Dowdle. "Chuba has meant a lot to this organization and certainly to the identity of what we want to build and we wanted to give him the opportunity to go out there and to continue to impact our team in a positive way," Canales said Tuesday, Oct. 28. "But we cannot ignore the fact Rico has been exceptional."
Huddle Up: Hubbard has been a tremendous asset for fantasy managers in the past, but essentially, Dowdle has won the starting job. He sent a two-game total scrimmage yards franchise record when Hubbard was sidelined, something not even Hubbard, or the likes of Christian McCaffrey, DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, etc. has been able to accomplish. For now, he might need Dowdle to stumble or suffer an injury before he gets a chance to start again. Don't cut Hubbard in fantasy leagues, but keep him reserved, as his role is expected to dwindle.

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard rushed 12 times for just 34 yards in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills, although he did have a rushing touchdown. He was targeted once, but ended up with zero receptions, too.
Huddle Up: Hubbard was splitting the backfield touches, and while the TD was nice, he had just 2.8 yards per carry (YPC), to 6.8 YPC for Rico Dowdle. As long as he is splitting the load with Dowdle, his fantasy ceiling is a bit limited. Hubbard is only worth using as a RB3 or flex fantasy option due to the presence of Dowdle.
