Miami Dolphins RB Alexander Mattison (neck) underwent neck surgery Sunday, Aug. 10, and will miss the 2025 season, according to sources.

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins RB Alexander Mattison (neck, shoulder) exited the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 10 against the Chicago Bears, but he is not in the concussion protocol. He appeared to bang his head on the ground, but head coach Mike McDaniel said Mattison has "neck and shoulder soreness."
Huddle Up: Mattison is trying to hold off rookie Ollie Gordon II for the No. 3 job behind De'Von Achane and Jaylen Wright. Even if the journeyman holds off the rookie for the job, he would only be worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues as long as Achane and/or Wright remains healthy.

Miami Dolphins RB Alexander Mattison (head) left the preseason opener Sunday, Aug. 10 against the Chicago Bears due to an apparent head injury. He left the field under his own power, and he headed straight to the locker room.
Huddle Up: Mattison is vying for the No. 3 job in South Florida, trying to hold off rookie Ollie Gordon II, who scored a late touchdown. As long as De'Von Achane and Jaylen Wright remain healthy, the winner of the No. 3 battle has limited fantasy appeal, but it's a battle to watch nonetheless.

Miami Dolphins RB Alexander Mattison has been one of the standout performers in training camp, according to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, noting that Mattison "breaks a big run nearly every practice." Mattison averaged a career-low 3.2 yards per carry last season with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Miami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane is still expected to see a big workload despite the additions of RBs Alexander Mattison and Ollie Gordon II, along with holdover backup RB Jaylen Wright.
Huddle Up: Achane is heads and shoulder above the other running backs, in terms of talent. While there has been talk of WR Tyreek Evans potentially seeing himself as an option to get some touches in the backfield, Achane is the unquestioned No. 1 tailback in South Florida. He is a RB1 in all fantasy leagues, and he is considered an option as early as the middle of Round 1 in all formats.

Miami Dolphins RB Alexander Mattison is off to a strong start to training camp, according to head coach Mike McDaniel. McDaniel said Mattison's play will determine how he is used in the offense.

Free-agent RB Alexander Mattison (Dolphins) reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, March 13.
Huddle Up: While Mattison was able to carve out a role in Las Vegas, he will likely have to settle for more of a thumper role behind De'Von Achane and Jaylen Wright in Miami. Unless (or until) Achane misses time due to injury, Mattison should be left on waivers in most fantasy leagues.

Las Vegas Raiders RB Alexander Mattison ran six times for 20 yards in Week 18 against the Los Angeles Chargers, while adding four receptions for 11 yards on five targets.
Huddle Up: Mattison had the chance to be the top tailback at times in 2024, and he was good for 420 rushing yards and a career-low 3.2 yards per carry. He isn't a bad change of pace guy, but he just isn't a workhorse. For fantasy purposes in 2025, he is a late-round flier at best.
