Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston (ankle) did not practice on Thursday, Oct. 17.
Huddle Up: Johnston had two games where he totaled a combined 95 receiving yards and three touchdowns, but since then he has just four catches for 31 scoreless yards in his last two. He's a desperation bye week flex play, at best, in Week 7.

Los Angeles Chargers LB Joey Bosa (hip), CB Kristian Fulton (hamstring), TE Hayden Hurst (groin), WR Quentin Johnston (ankle) and DB Deane Leonard (hamstring) did not practice on Thursday, Oct. 17. Also, WR DJ Chark Jr. (groin), TE Will Dissly (shoulder), WR Simi Fehoko (groin, shoulder), OG Zion Johnson (ankle), WR Ladd McConkey (hip), OT Trey Pipkins (shoulder) and CB Ja'Sir Taylor (fibula) were limited.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston caught three of his four targets for 22 yards in a 23-16 win over the Denver Broncos in Week 6.
Huddle Up: Johnston leads the team with three touchdown receptions, but the Chargers aren't throwing the ball enough to allow any of their receivers to post worthwhile yardage totals. Johnston is a touchdown-dependent lottery ticket.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston was targeted five times, resulting in one catch for nine yards versus the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Sept. 29. He also ran once for four yards.
Huddle Up: Johnston had been a pleasant surprise through three games, highlighted by his 95-yard, 3-TD effort in Weeks 2 and 3 combined. While his output on Sunday was disappointing, he was second on the club in targets, so at least he didn't disappear from the game plan. He's still too spotty to be carried in standard leagues, but you can continue keeping an eye on him in the weeks ahead.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston caught two passes for 44 yards and one touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3. He was targeted two times during the game.
Huddle Up: Johnston has been the main option in the passing game for the Chargers over the last two games and has three touchdowns during that span. He will continue to be involved in the passing game and could be a flex option in some deeper leagues.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston caught five passes for 51 yards and two touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers in Week 2. He was targeted six times during the game.
Huddle Up: The Chargers do not have a clear No. 1 receiver, so Johnston has a chance to earn the role over the next few weeks. He has been targeted 11 times over the first two weeks and can be a possible flex option in deeper leagues next week.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston "is going to be problem for people," according to head coach Jim Harbaugh. "I just think he got a bad rap. I look at some of the clips coming out of training camp last year. Whatever it was, it just seemed like in somebody's mind he was a disappointment. He hasn't been that at all in my eyes. I see big, fast, strong, getting stronger. I think that's a piece that's really been addressed in the offseason with coach (Ben) Herbert. And Quentin, just getting stronger to go with that. With that speed, the agility, his ability to catch the ball, he plucks it out of the air. He's as good as anybody doing it. But then combining that speed and agility, getting that strength component to go along with it, he's going to be a problem. He's going to be a problem for people," Harbaugh said about Johnston.
Huddle Up: It would not be the first time that a new coaching staff - especially one led by a proven winner such as Harbaugh - was able to turn around a talented player like Johnson coming off a horrible rookie season. If he can regain the confidence he likely lost as a rookie, he offers the Chargers a dynamic run-after-catch threat. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues should not allow Johnston to go undrafted, as he simply possesses too much talent to give up on after one year.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston is a "great worker" and a player that the team believes is "going to launch" in 2024, according to general manager Joe Hortiz on The Up & Adams podcast on Wednesday, May 15. "Quentin was a player we liked in Baltimore as well last year - a player that I liked. When you look at him, when he was coming out of college, he was an elite size/speed athlete. And you saw some rawness to his game, but you also saw the ability, for as big as he is, (6-foot-3), I think, and 220 pounds, you watch him drop his weight, getting in and out of breaks, come to balance at the top of the route, get out quickly. He can do some rare things for a player his size. (Coach) Jim (Harbaugh) was on the other sideline in one of his better games (in college), and so we've all seen it. We believe in it. He's a great kid, he's a great worker. Everyone here has a high opinion of him. I believe he's really going to launch. I really do. His skill set is great. We're (going to) work with him, make him better and better," Hortiz told Adams.
Huddle Up: While Johnston may end up being a bust, it is important to remember that he was easily the most raw receiver of the four first-round picks at the position last season. With Keenan Allen and Mike Williams no longer on the roster, Johnston and rookie Ladd McConkey will be given every chance to push for 80 to 100 targets apiece. It is much too early to completely bail on Johnston, who has more than enough talent to be a great value in the later rounds if the new coaching staff is able to work their magic with him.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston should both be able to make jumps in their play next season, according to general manager Joe Hortiz.
Huddle Up: Palmer and Johnston should both be top three receivers for the Chargers next season and likely will have big roles in the passing game. Palmer has been productive in the past and could be a No. 3 or No. 4 receiver in fantasy leagues, while Johnston may be a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston believes he's "due for a breakout" in 2024, he told reporters on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
Huddle Up: The No. 21 overall pick in 2023, Johnston had a quiet rookie season and failed to do much, even when both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams were out of the lineup. However, he was forced to catch passes from Easton Stick down the stretch, which certainly didn't help matters. His ability to have a breakout year in 2024 will depend on what happens with Allen and Williams, both of whom are cut candidates. If both stay, their presence will almost certainly hinder his production, assuming they can stay healthy, something Williams has been incapable of doing. If one or both leave, Johnston could become the No. 2 option, at worst, for star quarterback Justin Herbert. As things stand now, Johnston should be held in dynasty formats but he's nothing more than a late-round dart throw in re-draft leagues until one of the aforementioned veterans are cut loose.
