Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith caught five of his six targets for 60 yards in a 42-30 win over the Detroit Lions in Week 7.
Huddle Up: Smith set season highs in catches and targets and tied his season high in receiving yards. His usage is still too inconsistent to warrant consideration in redraft leagues, but Smith has plenty of dynasty appeal.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith managed to haul in three receptions for a team-best 60 yards on three targets in Week 3 against the Oakland Raiders.
Huddle Up: Smith's presence has made Kyle Rudolph an afterthought in Minnesota, although neither is much more than a TE2 in most fantasy formats at this point. The Vikings travel to meet the Bears in Week 4.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith caught all five of his targets for 28 yards and a touchdown in a 25-19 preseason win over the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Aug. 18.
Huddle Up: Smith will have a tough time making a big impact in 2019 as long as Kyle Rudolph is still around, but he figures to be have a shot at being the starting tight end as soon as next season. He's one of the top young options at the position in dynasty leagues.

Minnesota Vikings rookie TE Irv Smith has been surprising coaches with his blocking, according to assistant head coach Gary Kubiak, Thursday, Aug. 15.
Huddle Up: Kyle Rudolph remains the Vikings lead tight end, but Smith could work his way into more pass-catching opportunities by earning playing time via blocking. He could be a key waiver add should Rudolph miss any time.

Minnesota Vikings second-round TE Irv Smith Jr. was drafted in part because the team believes the new offense under offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski and assistant head coach/offensive advisor Gary Kubiak will be similar to what QB Kirk Cousins ran while he was a member of the Washington Redskins. Cousins leaned heavily on Jordan Reed during his time there, and general manager Rick Spielman believes Smith share more than just a few similarities. 'That type of tight end we haven't had here, and I know that's a big part of Kubiak's and Stefanski's offense right now. The other thing I thought was, don't want to put (Smith) there yet, but he has a lot of (Jordan) Reed-like traits in Washington, and that's why he was very appealing to us,' Spielman told ESPN's Courtney Cronin.
