Carolina Panthers QB Matt Corral (foot) may not be ready for the start of organized team activities as he continues to recover from Lisfranc surgery, head coach Frank Reich said on Wednesday, March 1.
Huddle Up: Corral's first season ended before it began after suffering a Lisfranc injury that required surgery. As a result, the 2022 third-round pick is basically entering 2023 as a rookie and unknown commodity once again. It remains to be seen if the Panthers will commit to him at some point, but Carolina is likely to explore their options, both in free agency and the draft, leaving Corral's future up in the air. He should be rostered in dynasty formats but can be avoided in re-draft leagues for now.

Huddle Up: It's a tough way to spend your rookie season, but Corral should make a full recovery and have a normal offseason going into Year 2. He could also have a chance to compete for the starting job in 2023. He's still worth a dynasty stash.

Huddle Up: The rookie QB was likely going to sit behind Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, but this injury robs him of any potential development that could have taken place throughout the year.

Carolina Panthers QB Baker Mayfield will start the team's first preseason game against the Washington Commanders Saturday, Aug. 13, according to a source. He is expected to play during the first offensive series, with QB Sam Darnold taking over during the second series. However, QBs P.J. Walker and Matt Corral are slated to see the bulk of the action during the game. Head coach Matt Rhule said earlier in the week that each quarterback should see approximately six to eight plays.

Huddle Up: Mayfield receiving the starting nod for this game is an indication that he currently has a slight edge over Darnold for the starting quarterback job. Whichever player ultimately wins the competition should be viewed as a QB2 option for seasonal fantasy leagues.

Carolina Panthers QB Matt Corral has struggled with "all the things" he has to do before the snap during minicamp, according to Joseph Person of The Athletic. "I think the arrow's definitely pointed up for Matt," head coach Matt Rhule said. "But it's gonna take time."

Carolina Panthers QB Matt Corral won't have an easy time winning the starting job out of training camp, offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo said on Wednesday, June 1. "It's really early now to even say what he needs to do," McAdoo said. "We need to get to training camp first. Then, obviously, preseason will play a part of it. But it's not gonna be easy for him. It's gonna be a challenge. And I'm not here to make it easy for him. I'm here to make it hard on him. So when he does have a chance to play and get in the games, he's ready to go."

Huddle Up: Not only does Corral have to pass Sam Darnold, but chances are P.J. Walker will be in front of him in the pecking order as well. Corral is a late-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts but isn't a viable fantasy option in re-draft formats.
