The Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich reached out to retired QB Philip Rivers to gauge his interest in playing one game for the team with QB Carson Wentz (illness) on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Ultimately, QB Sam Ehlinger will get the start in Week 17 if Wentz is unable to play. 'I think Sam is made for moments like this,' Reich said. 'He has that special it factor. Has really good quarterback skills, has continued to improve. Excited about the opportunity this week to prepare, and we'll see how the week plays out.'

Huddle Up: When asked about finding external help, Saints head coach Sean Payton sounded disinterested. Never say never, but it seems like more than a proverbial long shot that we see Rivers starting for the Saints in 2021.

Huddle Up: Is it fair to say a No. 4 overall pick that didn't win a Super Bowl overachieved? It certainly feels that way after all the criticism his unorthodox arm angle received. He made 240 consecutive starts in his 17-year career. He ranks fifth all-time with 63,440 passing yards and 421 touchdown passes. Jacoby Brissett is also an unrestricted free agent so we'll see what the Colts can do in the offseason to shore up the position.

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers (toe) should be fine without surgery on his injured toe, according to GM Chris Ballard, who added that if Rivers does go the surgical route it would be 'nothing major.'

Huddle Up: Rivers will turn 40 before the end of next season, but can still sling it as evidenced by his eight straight seasons with at least 4,000 passing yards and 23 TD tosses. Fantasy-wise, though, he's now at the low end of the QB2 scale after residing in the high-end QB2/low-end QB1 range.

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers said he is not sure if he will play next season.

Huddle Up: Rivers likely will take a few weeks to decide but will play with the Colts next season if he decides to continue his career. He posted solid numbers this season and can be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he decides to play in 2021.

Huddle Up: Rivers was posted only two touchdowns and two interceptions during the final two games of the regular season. He will be facing a solid Buffalo Bills defense and probably can be avoided in most fantasy leagues.
