Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson (calf) said there is no timetable for his return but indicated that he is feeling better than he did earlier in the week.
Huddle Up: The Steelers are being cautious with Wilson so he can return to practice in the near future. He likely is still the leading candidate for the starting job and will be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he starts Week 1.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson (calf) was held out of practice again on Friday, July 26, but head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters afterward that Wilson did not practice so he could "keep a minor thing from becoming major."
Huddle Up: All indications are that Wilson is dealing with nothing more than a sore calf. If that is the case, he should return to practice sometime next week. Wilson may not be what he once was, but there is a distinct possibility he could have his best season since leaving the Seattle Seahawks if offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is more willing to live with the 35-year-old's improvisation and support him with play-action passing more than the Denver Broncos were during his two-year stay there. He has a chance to be a solid QB2 in fantasy.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson (calf) is considered day-to-day with a calf injury, according to sources Thursday, July 25. In Wilson's absence, Justin Fields took first-team reps at quarterback.
Huddle Up: This will be something to monitor for the Steelers wide receivers. Wilson is most likely a mid-QB2 with limited upside in Arthur Smith's offnse.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson - then with the Denver Broncos - finished with the fourth-lowest bad throw percentage in the league among qualified passers at 13.2%, according to Pro Football Reference.
Huddle Up: Wilson may not have been a fit in head coach Sean Payton's offense - or Denver, for that matter - but the bad-throw percentage and number of bad throws (55) were at their lowest since at least 2018. Now in Pittsburgh and in a run-based offense that will likely allow him to improvise more than he could under Payton, it should surprise no one if Wilson bounces back to be a quality QB2 option in 2024.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson was "clearly the better quarterback" during minicamps and organized team activities, in the opinion of Mike DeFabo of The Athletic. He took the overwhelming majority of meaningful reps, including on the final day of mandatory minicamp, when most other veterans took off. In addition, DeFabo wrote that QB Justin Fields "doesn't often shine in seven-on-seven situations."
Huddle Up: Barring an injury during training camp, it appears as though Wilson will be Pittsburgh's No. 1 quarterback to begin the 2024 season. He's an upgrade over last year's starter (Kenny Pickett) but should only be viewed as a starting option in deeper two-quarterback fantasy leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Justin Fields said he expects to compete with QB Russell Wilson for the starting quarterback job during training camp.
Huddle Up: Wilson will open camp as the leading candidate for the job, but the team said Fields will have the chance to earn the job. Both should be upgrades over Kenny Pickett, but neither will be more than No. 2 fantasy quarterbacks to start the season.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson, QB Justin Fields and QB Kyle Allen were added to the roster this offseason, but general manager Omar Khan is not ruling out selecting a quarterback at some point after the first round of 2024 NFL Draft since all three of the new quarterbacks are on one-year contracts.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson is first in the pecking order, followed by QB Justin Fields, head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed on Sunday, March 24. "We've been very transparent about the pecking order, at least to start," Tomlin said. "I just think that provides clarity for all parties involved. Russell is a veteran man. He's got a proven process of readiness. He's been in this league a long time."
Huddle Up: Wilson will enter the 2024 campaign after finishing as QB14 overall in 2023. However, Fields definitely has the higher upside of the two thanks to his ability to run and would be a borderline QB1, at worst, if he sees the field. Fantasy managers investing in Wilson would be wise to grab Fields, also.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and QB Russell Wilson plan to work on a contract extension at the end of the 2024 season, according to multiple sources. He had signed a one-year contract with the Steelers for the veteran minimum because the Denver Broncos are still paying him $39 million for the upcoming season.
Huddle Up: Although he may not be the same player that he was in Seattle, the 35-year-old Wilson can be viewed as a solid QB2 option in fantasy football drafts this year because of the weapons surrounding him on offense, such as WR George Pickens and TE Pat Freiermuth.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Justin Fields has been told that he will be the No. 2 quarterback behind QB Russell Wilson.
Huddle Up: Fantasy players can keep an eye on the situation to see if anything changes, but it looks like Wilson will be the starting quarterback for the start of 2024. Wilson will be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in most leagues, while Fields likely will also be a No. 2 QB if he takes over the job.
