Retired QB Derek Carr (Saints) has said he is interested in retiring to play for a contender, and the Minnesota Vikings have an interest. He retired after the 2024 season.
Huddle Up: It remains to be seen how much of an upgrade Carr would be over J.J. McCarthy, but he is a veteran who has won in this league, and that's what the Vikings are targeting in the offseason, as they look to upgrade the position. For fantasy purposes, if Carr resurfaces, he would still have a long way to go to prove he is a target.

Retired QB Derek Carr is believed to be willing to play next season for a playoff contender, but the Saints have not been contacted about Carr's availability at this point, according to sources.
Huddle Up: Carr will likely receive interest at some point, but teams may decide to wait until after the start of free agency before pursuing him. He will likely be a starter if he decides to play again but will only be a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Retired QB Derek Carr (Saints) said he is only willing to unretire if given the chance to play for a team that has a chance to win the Super Bowl.
Huddle Up: Carr is reportedly healthy after dealing with a significant shoulder injury, and while the Saints retain his rights, they would likely be willing to move Carr thanks to the emergence of Tyler Shough. If Carr does end up returning with a contender, he could be a solid a QB2 in 2026.

Retired QB Derek Carr has been rehabbing his injured shoulder and is now able to throw fully during his workouts, according to sources. Interested teams have learned that Carr does not have any limitations in his shoulder.
Huddle Up: Fantasy players will need to monitor the situation to see if Carr will return to the NFL. He played well at times during his NFL career but will likely only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in leagues if he plays in 2026.

Retired QB Derek Carr (Saints) has had several NFL teams do due diligence on him, in order to determine if he would be interested in making a comeback. According to multiple sources, the 34-year-old would consider a return to the league in an ideal situation with the right coaching staff. The New Orleans Saints currently retain Carr's contractual rights but would be likely to part with him, given the emergence of QB Tyler Shough.
Huddle Up: Carr retired due to a labral tear and rotator cuff damage last May but opted to rest for a few months rather than undergoing surgery, which would have put his 2025 season in jeopardy. His shoulder responded well to this plan and his rehab has now reached the point where he is throwing without any limitations. If Carr chooses to unretire and lands with a team where he could compete for a starting job, he could be viewed as a QB2 option for 2026 fantasy leagues.

The Cincinnati Bengals conducted an extensive search for quarterback help before ultimately trading with the Cleveland Browns for QB Joe Flacco earlier this week, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Cincinnati reportedly expressed interest in Houston Texans QB Davis Mills, Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Howell and retired QB Derek Carr (Saints) before making a deal for Flacco. The Bengals did not check in on free-agent QB Ryan Tannehill because he has not played since the 2023 season.
