The New England Patriots are expected to keep QB Drake Maye on the sidelines until the play of the team's offensive line improves, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Huddle Up: Maye continues to be worthy of stashing in dynasty formats and should get an opportunity to play later this season. QB Jacoby Brissett, the current starter for New England, should not be started outside of deeper two-quarterback fantasy leagues.

New England Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett was named the starting quarterback Thursday, Aug. 29, with QB Drake Maye serving as backup.
Huddle Up: Interesting scenario considering coach Jerod Mayo came out a couple of days ago and said Drake Maye had outplayed Brissett. Brissett is a ho-hum QB2 in fantasy that could have usage if you suffer an early season injury. Maye is only worth stashing in dynasty formats, but he should get his chance at some point this season.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye has outplayed QB Jacoby Brissett in camp, according to head coach Jerod Mayo. "This is a true competition, and I would say at this current point, Drake has outplayed Jacoby," Mayo said Monday in his weekly appearance on WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show." "Now in saying that, we have to take in the full body of work, going all the way back to the spring and beginning of training camp. And we'll see where we end up. But those are the conversations that will happen here over the next couple of days."
Huddle Up: You can't say that publicly then anoint Brissett the starter, can you? Maye appears to be on the cusp of winning the spot, and he has more upside in fantasy than Brissett. Maye is still a midrange QB2 in single-year formats because he doesn't have a lot around him and has a wider expected learning curve.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye still has a chance to win the starting quarterback job, according to head coach Jerod Mayo. He said Maye has made strides, but he wants to see the whole operation be faster.
Huddle Up: Jacoby Brissett is likely to start the season under center, but neither player has much single-year value beyond two-QB leagues.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye completed six of his 11 passes for 47 yards versus the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, Aug. 15. Maye also ran four times for 15 yards and a touchdown.
Huddle Up: Maye looked good in leading two scoring drives, and his numbers would've looked markedly better if Javon Baker hadn't dropped a deep ball that Maye put in a perfect spot. He's still ticketed for the bench to open the season, but the more good work he does the sooner he can move past Jacoby Brissett.

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots QB Drake Maye only played one series in the preseason opener, in part, because the team didn't want him in there with backup offensive linemen, according to head coach Jerod Mayo. "That's always a consideration," Mayo said when asked if New England's O-line depth chart played a part in the decision. "If he's in there, you want him in there with the starting offensive line. We gotta protect that guy. Not saying that we don't have to protect the other guys, but that absolutely did go into it."
Huddle Up: Jacoby Brissett is expected to be the starter when the season begins. Both QBs are meager QB2 options in single-year leagues.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye completed 2 of his 3 pass attempts for 19 yards against the Carolina Panthers in his preseason debut Thursday, Aug. 8.

New England Patriots QB Joe Milton III has outperformed QB Drake Maye in training camp thus far, The Boston Globe's Ben Volin wrote Tuesday, July 30.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye showed improvement during offseason workouts but probably is still unlikely to be the starting quarterback to open the season, in the opinion of NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran.
Huddle Up: There is a good chance that Maye will take over the starting job at some point in 2024, but it may take some time for him to join the lineup. Fantasy players in standard leagues probably can avoid him in drafts but could be a waiver wire addition if he starts.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye said he will be working with former NFL assistant coach Clyde Christensen to prepare for the start of training of camp.
