Carolina Panthers QB Sam Darnold has once again emerged as a player reportedly involved in trade discussions, but head coach Matt Rhule seemed to shoot down any chance of a deal happening Thursday, Oct. 21. 'I'm bought in on Sam. My biggest thing is making sure that me and Sean Ryan and Joe Brady do a better job of putting Sam in the best position. He's my focus & I expect him to play his best football moving forward. I'm not looking anywhere else,' Rhule said.
Huddle Up: Speculation is running wild once again where Deshaun Watson might land with the trade deadline coming up in two weeks, so it is not a surprise that Darnold is involved in the rumors after coming off his worst start of the season. The schedule should offer an opportunity for Darnold to bounce back, as the Panthers face the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons in the next two games. Consider him a high-upside QB2 in those contests.

Carolina Panthers WR Terrace Marshall Jr. (concussion) is not participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 21.
Huddle Up: Unless Marshall is able to make some rapid progress and clear the protocol over the next few days, he'll miss his first game Sunday.

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard is expected to see more carries as head coach Matt Rhule said the team: 'needs to redefine who we are, and that includes running the ball more.'
Huddle Up: Hubbard had a 16-61-1 line on the ground last week, and he should remain a factor even when Christian McCaffrey returns. He's an RB2 with Run CMC out and will be a flex option when he's back.

Carolina Panthers WR Robby Anderson caught three passes for 11 yards and one touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6. He was targeted 11 times during the game.
Huddle Up: Anderson has been targeted 29 times over the last three games but has posted only 87 yards during that span. He has finished with at least 50 yards in only one game in 2021 but will have a favorable matchup next week. He can be a flex option in most leagues against the New York Giants.

Carolina Panthers WR D.J. Moore caught five passes for 73 yards against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6. He was targeted 13 times during the game.
Huddle Up: Moore continues to be a top option in the passing game with at least 10 targets in four of the last five games. He has posted at least 70 yards in five games this season and should be at least a No. 2 fantasy receiver next week against the New York Giants.

Carolina Panthers QB Sam Darnold went 17-for-41 for 207 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6. He also rushed for 48 yards on four carries during the game.
Huddle Up: Darnold has thrown four touchdowns and six interceptions over the last three weeks and has been held to under 210 yards in each of the last two games. He will have a favorable matchup next week against the New York Giants but probably should only be an option in two-quarterback leagues.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey on Saturday, Oct. 16, was placed on the Reserve/Injured list.
Huddle Up: Yet more bad news for McCaffrey's fantasy GMs as the running back will now miss at least three additional games, bringing his total to five missed contests in 2021 and another nine-touch, six-point PPR game in which he was injured. Long-term health question marks also will now be asked of CMac after he's logged only five full games since the start of 2020 with various injuries. Definitely explore a reasonable trade if McCaffrey is languishing in your IR slot and you need to win now, particularly in re-draft leagues.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) did not practice for a second consecutive day Friday, Oct. 15, and has been ruled out for Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Huddle Up: It is still unknown if McCaffrey had a setback or if the Panthers are just exercising extreme caution and giving him extra time to rehab so he can be a full-go for Week 7. Either way, Chuba Hubbard will get the nod again in Week 6 and is now shaping as a low-end RB1 option with bye weeks starting and all of the injuries to running backs around the league.

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) officially did not practice Thursday, Oct. 14.
Huddle Up: It is anyone's guess if the Panthers are just being overly careful with their stud running back, but a DNP after four consecutive limited practices over the last two weeks is not ideal. At this point, fantasy managers should probably plan on being without him this week against the Minnesota Vikings unless he can get a full practice in on Friday. Chuba Hubbard handled the bulk of the workload in Week 5 and would be a high-end RB2 option if McCaffrey sits out Week 6.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) has optimism leading into Week 6 as head coach Matt Rhule said he's hopeful McCaffrey plays this week.
Huddle Up: It seems much to do about nothing because Rhule was hopeful he'd play last week. What's likely to happen when Run CMC returns is a timeshare. Chuba Hubbard rushed 24 times for 101 yards and caught five balls for 33 yards. He has proven himself and will likely remain at least a flex option the rest of the season. McCaffrey is still an RB1, but his fragility will likely keep a handcuff like Hubbard tied to him for the foreseeable future.

Carolina Panthers WR Robby Anderson posted two catches for 30 yards on seven targets in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Huddle Up: Anderson hasn't scored since Week 1, and he has a total of just 11 grabs for 179 yards in five games. So much for that familiarity thing with Sam Darnold. Anderson has been a huge bust in terms of fantasy. He'll look for better results in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings, but he is mostly a WR5 in most leagues right now.

Carolina Panthers TE Ian Thomas recorded four receptions for 40 yards on five targets in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Huddle Up: Thomas has come alive with seven receptions across the past two games, but he still has a ways to go before he is considered a fantasy regular. At best he is a low-end TE2 in leagues of 12 or more teams. The Panthers host the Vikings in Week 6.

Carolina Panthers WR D.J. Moore posted five receptions for a team-high 42 yards in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was targeted seven times.
Huddle Up: The pass game struggled mightily for the Panthers, and Moore was the best of the bunch. That isn't saying much, though, as his line was rather subpar. He'll look to bounce back for fantasy managers in Week 6 against the visiting Minnesota Vikings.

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard rushed 24 times for 101 yards in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles and he added five receptions for 33 yards on six targets.
Huddle Up: The rookie has had increased confidence in each of his past three games in place of the injured Christian McCaffrey. As long as CMC is sidelined, Hubbard looks like he can at least be a decent RB3 or flex fantasy option in most leagues. The Panthers host the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6.

Carolina Panthers QB Sam Darnold completed 21-of-37 passes for 177 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles and he rushed for 10 yards.
Huddle Up: Darnold entered the day with three total interceptions in his first four starts, but he doubled that with a disastrous performance in this one. He remains nothing more than a QB2 in most fantasy leagues heading into Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) will not play in Week 5's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Huddle Up: McCaffrey had been listed as doubtful on the injury report after being a limited practice participant throughout the week. Chuba Hubbard is expected to receive the bulk of the carries for Carolina this afternoon and can be viewed as an RB2 or flex option in fantasy leagues.

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 8, but is listed as doubtful for Week 5.
Huddle Up: McCaffrey is making progress in his recovery, but it seems the Panthers are not ready to have him active at this point. Chuba Hubbard will receive another start if McCaffrey sits out and can be a No. 2 running back or flex option.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to head coach Matt Rhule.
Huddle Up: It's a great sign for his future availability that McCaffrey was limited in practice all week, but it looks as though Rhule is making the right call here by giving his stud running back one more week to heal up. Chuba Hubbard is expected to get the starting nod against a Philadelphia Eagles defense that has been pounded by opposing running backs in each of the last two games. With Carolina likely facing a more positive game script than it did in Week 4, Hubbard could deliver a solid RB2 effort this time around.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) practiced Thursday, Oc. 7, for the second straight day.
Huddle Up: It likely will go down as another limited workout, but even if so it nonetheless increases the chances that McCaffrey will indeed return in Week 5. We should get some more definitive news Friday.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 6.
Huddle Up: It appears like McCaffrey has a chance to play in the Week 5 game, so fantasy players should keep an eye on the situation during the week. He is a must-start option in all leagues if he is active for the game.

New England Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore was acquired by the Carolina Panthers Wednesday, Oct. 6, in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2023.
Huddle Up: Gilmore figures to slot in opposite of Donte Jackson and be a presence once his quadriceps injury heals. Gilmore is better in real football as opposed to fantasy, but he might be worth picking up in IDP leagues in a few weeks.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) is expected to be present at practice Wednesday, Oct. 6, so the team can test his hamstring and 'see where he is football-wise,' according to head coach Matt Rhule.
Huddle Up: Rhule reportedly made it clear it is too early to determine if McCaffrey will play in Week 5 or if he will even practice at any point the rest of the week. Chuba Hubbard totaled 71 yards on 15 touches in Week 4 and - at least for now until McCaffrey's status can be determined - should be expected to handle a similar workload in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Hubbard should have RB1 upside in what appears to be a favorable matchup in that one.

Carolina Panthers WR Robby Anderson caught five passes for 46 yards against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4. He was targeted 11 times during the game.
Huddle Up: Anderson is off to a slow start this season with four straight games with under 60 receiving yards. He has showed a good connection with Sam Darnold in the past but may only be a flex option next week against Philadelphia Eagles.

Carolina Panthers WR Brandon Zylstra caught two passes for 63 yards against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4. He was targeted two times during the game.
Huddle Up: Zylstra has caught all five of his targets this season but is behind D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson in terms of the depth chart. He will see a few targets next week but can be avoided in fantasy leagues.
