Atlanta Falcons QB Tua Tagovailoa has "a real chance" to earn the starting job over QB Michael Penix Jr., according to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network.
Huddle Up: With Penix returning from a knee injury, Tagovailoa could be the starter to by default to begin the season. However, it sounds like Tagovailoa could claim the job permanently. Regardless of who is under center for the Falcons, they are likely to provide QB2 production for fantasy owners.

Atlanta Falcons QB Tua Tagovailoa, who recently signed a one-year deal with the Falcons, said he's willing to do whatever QB Michael Penix Jr. needs. "I look at myself when I was a rookie and I was very grateful for the chance that I had with someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick," Tagovailoa said. "I think whatever I can do to help Mike's game will help me because if I'm helping getting him better, it's helping me get better, vice versa, we're then helping the team get better."
Huddle Up: Penix is recovering from a torn ACL and may need a few weeks to get back during the season. Tugovailoa could start the first month, and the results would determine where the team goes from there. Either way, these two are QB2s in fantasy without a lot of upside this season.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa was officially released Thursday, March 12, with a post-June 1 designation.
Huddle Up: Tagovailoa is expected to join the Atlanta Falcons this offseason and will compete for their starting job. He will be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he wins the job. The Dolphins will likely have Malik Willis as their starter and can also be a No. 2 quarterback in leagues.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa plans to sign a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons once he is officially released by the Dolphins, according to sources.
Huddle Up: Tagovailoa will likely compete with Michael Penix Jr. for the starting job during training camp, so fantasy players will need to monitor the situation. Neither quarterback is more than a No. 2 fantasy quarterback at this point.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa will have the Atlanta Falcons making a 'strong early push' to sign Tagovailoa once released, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo on Monday, March 9.
Huddle Up: Tagovailoa had his worst fantasy season since his rookie 2020 campaign, finishing as the QB25 and throwing for a career-worst 15 interceptions. With the Dolphins stating that they're moving on from Tagovailoa after six seasons, he'll look to latch on somewhere else. Whether he'll be fantasy relevant is another story. We'll see if Tagovailoa gets to a team where he can start, but if he does, he'll be a low-end QB2 in two-QB formats and a waiver wire dart throw option in single-QB seasonal formats.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa will be released when the new league year opens with a post-June 1 designation. Miami will take on an NFL-record $99 million in dead money split over two years.
Huddle Up: He'll garner interest from QB-hungry teams like the New York Jets, and he'll have QB2 value in fantasy because he'll likely land a starting gig. However, the upside is really minimal considering the teams are likely to be a mess.

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray and Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Smith are the two quarterbacks the Minnesota Vikings are prioritizing at the quarterback position, if they are released and become available, although Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa and Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins, a former Viking, are also on their radar.
Huddle Up: The team is expected to move on from J.J. McCarthy, or at least challenge him with a competition from a veteran who has won in this league. The team is casting a wide net at the position, and they are likely kicking themselves for letting Sam Darnold walk out the door.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa has attracted interest from several NFL clubs who would pursue him if he becomes a free agent but would not have much desire to trade for him, according to EssentiallySports.com's Tony Pauline.
Huddle Up: The Dolphins have little leverage in this situation and opposing teams are willing to gamble that they can acquire Tagovailoa without having to give up any draft capital. They would also prefer to pay him the veteran minimum if he is cut by Miami rather than taking on his hefty 2026 contractual salary. Tagovailoa is likely to have an opportunity to start wherever he lands, which would make him worthy of consideration as a QB2 option in most fantasy leagues.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa could be cut this offseason by the team, in the opinion of NFL.com's Matt Okada.
Huddle Up: Tua Tagovailoa is likely to earn a chance to start somewhere in 2026 due to the lack of talent in the NFL Draft. Where he lands will determine his fantasy prevelance but he is worth keeping tabs on.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is increasingly likely to be playing with a different team next season, although the organization has not made a final decision, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Dolphins would likely have to eat most of the $54 million in guaranteed money that Tagovailoa is slated to earn in 2026 if he is traded and a $45.2 million dead cap charge would be applied to the salary cap. However, releasing him would allow Miami to spread the dead cap charge over two years and they would then have to pay Tagovailoa $3 million in fully guaranteed money in 2027.
Huddle Up: Miami's final decision on Tagovailoa is likely to be made by March 13, when the new league year begins. Fantasy players should continue to monitor this situation because there is a good chance that he could land a starting NFL job elsewhere in 2026, which would make him a QB2 option in most fantasy leagues.
