Free-agent QB Marcus Mariota (Eagles) agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with the Washington Commanders Tuesday, March 12. The deal could be worth $10 million after incentives.
Huddle Up: He figures to be a placeholder for whoever the team decides to take at No. 2 overall in the NFL draft. He could be an early season matchup play.

Impending free-agent RB Austin Ekeler (Chargers) agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Washington Commanders Monday, March 11, worth as much as $11.43 million, according to sources.
Huddle Up: Ekeler likely will share playing time with Brian Robinson Jr. but should see a decent amount of touches each game. He probably can be considered a No. 2 running back or flex option most weeks next season.

Free-agent TE Zach Ertz (Lions) is signing a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with the Washington Commanders, per source on Wednesday, March 6.
Huddle Up: Ertz appeared in seven games for the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 but didn't produce much, tallying 27 catches for 187 yards and one touchdown. He ended up signing to the Lions' practice squad but didn't see any action. In fairness to Ertz, Arizona's quarterback situation was a mess with Kyler Murray on the shelf for much of the season. However, with Ertz turning 34 in November, it remains to be seen how much he has left in the tank, and he might be catching passes from a rookie signal-caller. We'll have to see it to believe it before considering Ertz a viable fantasy option in 2024.

Los Angeles Chargers impending free-agent RB Austin Ekeler is a player head coach Jim Harbaugh said he would like the team to re-sign this offseason.
Huddle Up: Fantasy players will need to monitor the situation to see where Ekeler plays next season. He is coming off a disappointing 2023 season but still probably will be able to find a starting a job with a team. He can be a starting option in most fantasy leagues if he plays better next season.

Detroit Lions TE Zach Ertz is in shape and will practice with the team but his status for the NFC Championship Game remains up in the air, head coach Dan Cambell said on Wednesday, Jan. 24. "We're going to gauge this and see where he's at," Campbell said.
Huddle Up: While Ertz is a fantastic late-season addition for the Lions, he'll be stuck behind Sam LaPorta and there's no telling what he'll be able to contribute after not playing at all this season. He shouldn't be in lineups in any format.

Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 29, but is not on the injury report for Week 17.
Huddle Up: Robinson likely will return to the lineup this week and should receive most of the carries in the running game. He can be a No. 2 running back or flex option in most fantasy leagues.
Posted 12/29/2023 12:20 am GMT
Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 28.
Huddle Up: Robinson seems to have a good chance to play in Week 17 as long as he does not suffer a setback. He will receive most of the work at running back if he plays and can be at least a flex option in fantasy leagues.
Posted 12/28/2023 4:41 pm GMT
Washington Commanders RB Chris Rodriguez Jr. (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Thursday, Dec. 28.
Huddle Up: Tough break for the sixth-round rookie, who had a 10-58-2 line on the ground last week. Brian Robinson Jr. was limited in practice Wednesday, and if he's able to go, B-Rob and Antonio Gibson will be the only backs on this team worth having for now.

Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 27.
Huddle Up: Robinson has missed some time because of the injury but appears to have a chance to play in Week 17. He can be at least a flex option in leagues if he is cleared to play this week.

Washington Commanders RB Chris Rodriguez Jr. (ankle) had a walking boot on his right foot in the locker room following the Week 16 game against the New York Jets.
Huddle Up: Rodriguez had a strong showing against the Jets, but he apparently injured his ankle during the performance. Rodriguez may have played his way into a bigger role, but he will have to be healthy before he can try to for a repeat effort in Week 17.
Posted 12/22/2023 6:58 pm GMT
Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) was ruled out for Week 16 against the New York Jets on Friday, Dec. 22.
Huddle Up: Fantasy managers should look forward to another week of seeing rookie Chris Rodriguez Jr. and Antonio Gibson split carries, while the latter handles a bit more of the receiving work. Neither player figures to be anything more than a middling flex option this week against a defense that should keep Washington in check.
Posted 12/21/2023 7:43 pm GMT
Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) was spotted working on a side field on Thursday, Dec. 21.
Huddle Up: Robinson hasn't practiced in any fashion since suffering the injury in Week 13, so anything short of multiple limited practices Thursday and Friday probably means he is highly unlikely to play in Week 16 versus the New York Jets. Chris Rodriguez should be expected to handle more of the early-down work, while Antonio Gibson should be considered the favorite on passing downs. Neither back should be considered anything more than RB3/flex options if Robinson sits again.

Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
Huddle Up: Robinson is off to a bad start to the week after not taking part in practice at all last week. Robinson is a borderline RB2 play if he suits up, assuming he handles a normal workload upon his return. If he doesn't play, Chris Rodriguez figures to handle the bulk of the work once again, but he didn't do enough in Week 15 to warrant starting consideration.

Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 15 versus the Los Angeles Rams.
Huddle Up: It turns out even the Week 14 bye wasn't enough to get Robinson over the hump. The Commanders will likely split early-down between Antonio Gibson and Chris Rodriguez in his absence, with the former seeing the bulk of work on passing downs. The Rams have been one of the most difficult matchups for fantasy running backs this season, so it will be hard to trust Gibson as anything more than a low-end RB2 or Rodriguez as a desperation flex.
Posted 12/13/2023 8:31 pm GMT
Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) did not take part in practice on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Huddle Up: Robinson sitting for the first practice out of the bye is not a good sign for his chances of playing in Week 15, but he's still got multiple days to get right. Antonio Gibson and Chris Rodriguez split carries after Robinson exited Week 13 early, but only Gibson was involved in the passing game. He'd be a viable flex option if Robinson doesn't play, while Rodriguez would be more of a touchdown-dependent desperation play.

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler could find himself in a "competition for carries" amid the team's struggle to run the ball effectively, head coach Brandon Staley told reporters Thursday, Dec. 7. ESPN's Kris Rhim reported that RBs Joshua Kelley and Isaiah Spiller could be in the mix for more carries.
Huddle Up: Ekeler hasn't reached 100 rushing yards in a game since Week 1, and he's failed to reach 70 rushing yards in a game since coming out of the Week 5 bye. If Ekeler's struggles lead to a reduced role, it would mean managers may need to find a pivot option down the stretch.
Posted 12/03/2023 9:02 pm GMT
Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury during the Week 13 game and has been ruled out.
Huddle Up: Fantasy players will need to look for an update in the next day or two to see how long Robinson may be sidelined. Antonio Gibson probably will see a majority of the work at running back if Robinson misses time and can be a flex option in most leagues.

Arizona Cardinals TE Zach Ertz was waived on Thursday, Nov. 30.
Huddle Up: It is officially the Trey McBride show in Arizona now. With no threat of Ertz coming back to steal snaps, McBride is free to continue gobbling up targets in an Arizona offense that will need to pass a lot down the stretch. In five full games with Ertz on IR, the second-year tight end has posted 33 catches for 353 yards and one touchdown on 44 targets. He is a clear top-five option at his position now. As for Ertz, his injured quad must be close to healed if he is asking for his release. It would not be a surprise if serves as a low-end fantasy starter with his new team.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Austin Ekeler ended up with 10 rushing attempts for 32 yards in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens, while adding five catches for 32 yards on six targets.
Huddle Up: Ekeler has typically been getting by on volume in the passing game and touchdowns since he returned from his ankle injury in mid-October, but those wells have dried up a bit for him over the last two weeks. The good news is that game script should be working in his favor in Week 13 against the offensively challenged New England Patriots. Ekeler should be able to deliver solid RB1 numbers in that one.
Posted 11/23/2023 11:59 pm GMT
Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (head) left the Week 12 game early in order to be evaluated for a concussion but has been cleared to return.
Huddle Up: Fantasy players should monitor the situation to see if Robinson suffers any symptoms in the future. He will be the main running back if healthy and can be at least a flex option in leagues.
Posted 11/13/2023 3:01 am GMT
Washington Commanders WR Jahan Dotson ended up with no receptions on two targets in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Huddle Up: Dotson is hard to figure out. He entered with 12 grabs and 177 receiving yards with two touchdowns in the past two games, but he was blanked for the second time in the past five outings. His production is so erratic, but fantasy managers can't risk dropping him, as he has so much potential in this solid Washington passing offense.
Posted 11/08/2023 9:49 pm GMT
Washington Commanders WR Jahan Dotson (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 8.
Huddle Up: Dotson has been playing better recently with 177 yards and two touchdowns over the last two games. He should return to practice later in the week and could be at least a flex option in most fantasy leagues.
Posted 10/27/2023 11:36 pm GMT
Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 27, and is not on the injury report for Week 8.
Huddle Up: Ekeler is a big part of the Chargers offense when healthy and should be involved in both the running and passing game. He is a must-start option in all fantasy leagues.
Posted 10/27/2023 5:06 pm GMT
Washington Commanders LB Cody Barton (ankle) and OG Saahdiq Charles (calf) did not practice on Friday, Oct. 27, and were ruled out on the final Week 8 injury report. DT Phidarian Mathis (calf) practiced in full and is listed as questionable. CB Benjamin St-Juste (thigh), OG Samuel Cosmi (hip), TE Cole Turner (ankle), DT Jonathan Allen (knee) and DE Montez Sweat (finger) practiced in full and carry no injury designation.
