Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is expected to be ready for the start of training camp after receiving a second opinion on his injured shoulder.
Huddle Up: Although Richardson seems to have avoided a major injury, he still missed out on a lot of reps during minicamp. At this point, Daniel Jones has to be considered the frontrunner to open the year as the starter.

Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones has performed well during the mandatory minicamp this week and has picked up the offense very well, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Huddle Up: Jones is receiving all of the work with the first-team offense with QB Anthony Richardson sidelined and likely is the leading candidate for the starting job. It is not known how long he will keep the job if he is named the starter and should only be a possible No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Updating an ongoing story, Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) remains without a timeline to return after visiting Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the surgeon who operated on Richardson's AC joint last year, in Los Angeles for a checkup, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Huddle Up: With Richardson remaining out indefinitely, it's safe to presume QB Daniel Jones has the upper hand in this competition. We'll monitor this situation, but Richardson is no more valuable than a late-round fantasy flier when healthy.

Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones has an "ideal opportunity" to show the team he can be the starting quarterback during this week's mandatory minicamp, in the opinion of ESPN's Stephen Holder, who notes it "offers a chance to build some continuity with his receivers and offensive linemen in full-squad workouts." Jones is set to compete with QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder), who will miss the entire camp due to a shoulder injury, for the starting job, but Jones should be in line to get most, if not all, of the first-team reps here.
Huddle Up: Jones hasn't done much the last two seasons due to a mix of injuries and poor performance. He was solid in 2022, though, producing decent QB2 fantasy numbers thanks in large to his ability as a runner (708 yards, 7 TDs). This feels very much like a make-or-break season for Jones, who is playing on a one-year deal -- a far cry from his last payday (four years, $160 million). That's a powerful motivator, and clearly the veteran thought Indianapolis represented his best chance to get his career back on track. Jones can take a step in that direction this week. If he can outlast Richardson for starter duties in August, he might offer some late-round appeal due to his dual-threat upside.

Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is dealing with merely soreness and inflammation after imaging tests revealed that his shoulder is structurally sound, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Huddle Up: Fowler stated that Richardson threw "hundreds of footballs a day" at times during OTAs, which is likely what led to this issue. As a result, it sounds as though Richardson should be fine for the start of camp. While the consensus seems to favor Daniel Jones in Indy's quarterback competition this summer, Richardson easily offers the team its best chance to win if he improved his accuracy after working with a biometrics expert this spring. The winner of this competition could push for low-end QB1 production in fantasy.

Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. (knee) has a sore knee after colliding with a teammate Thursday, June 6. The injury isn't considered serious, but he is expected to held out of minicamp.
Huddle Up: Although Pittman appears to have avoided a serious injury, there is still some cause for concern. He is coming off the worst season since his rookie year, and the quarterback situation in Indianapolis could continue to cap Pittman's upside.

Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. (undisclosed) limped off the field and did not return to practice after getting tangled up while running a route on Thursday, June 5.
Huddle Up: This news comes down shortly after the news of Anthony Richardson (shoulder) expected to miss at least a month. Pittman is coming off his worst season since his rookie year, one that was likely greatly affected by a lingering back issue. It remains to be seen if Indy's quarterback play is good enough this season to support its talented receiving corps. If it is, Pittman, Josh Downs and rookie Tyler Warren would figure to benefit the most.

Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) aggravated the right AC joint in his shoulder recently, according to head coach Shane Steichen. Per Steichen, the team hopes Richardson can return to practice "at some point" during training camp.
Huddle Up: Awful news for the third-year quarterback, who by all accounts was having a good offseason. Richardson's time away figures to allow Daniel Jones to handle the majority of first-team snaps, which may be the only opening the latter needed to win the starting job. With that said, Richardson still has a good chance at winning the quarterback competition if he can return early during training camp. Expect both players to make starts for the Colts this season.

Indianapolis Colts WR Josh Downs (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Wednesday, May 28, because of a soft tissue injury.
Huddle Up: Downs could sit out the rest of the offseason workouts, but it does not appear to be a serious issue. He posted a career-high 803 yards in 2024 and should see a decent amount of targets this upcoming season. He can be a late round pick in fantasy leagues but probably will not be a starting option most weeks.

Indianapolis Colts QBs Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones are engaging in an "open competition" where both players will split reps during organized team activities, according to head coach Shane Steichen. "We're breaking down the reps. They are both getting one reps. They're both getting two reps. I think through OTAs, we've got nine good practices. They'll both get about 170 reps a piece with those guys, with the ones and twos, and we'll flip-flop them. You guys were out there today. You saw how it worked, and that's how it's going to go. ... We have like first- (and) second-down day, then we have a third-down day. So we don't want one guy getting all the third-down reps with the ones. So, we're going to flip it that way, and then we go to a red zone day. It's the same reason," Steichen said.
Huddle Up: Steichen also made it a point to highlight some fundamental and technical improvements Richardson has made since last season. Fantasy managers should not expect a resolution to this competition until early to mid-August, as Steichen undoubtedly wants to have one player win the job convincingly and keep it for as long as possible. Since both quarterbacks are very good runners, the winner of this competition is worth monitoring for fantasy purposes.

Indianapolis Colts WR Adonai Mitchell was primarily targeted on deep balls, finishing second in the NFL to New Orleans Saints WR Rashid Shaheed in average air yards per route run, and 40% of his targets came against man coverage. That's unlikely to change, in the opinion of ESPN's Ben Solak, who notes that Mitchell will "probably" remain "stuck" behind WRs Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs, as well as rookie TE Tyler Warren in terms of targets.
Huddle Up: Mitchell (23-312-0) struggled mightily as a rookie, and with Anthony Richardson having all kinds of problems with his accuracy it might be an uphill battle for any receiver to produce reliable numbers this season. Barring major strides in the passing game, Mitchell isn't worth considering for a roster spot.

Indianapolis Colts first-round pick TE Tyler Warren signed his four-year, $20.9 million rookie deal Friday, May 9. The deal includes a fifth-year option, is fully guaranteed and includes an $11.88 million signing bonus.
Huddle Up: Warren is expected to play a ton as the team loves his blocking and receiving abilities. You might be considering him over aging veterans like Travis Kelce in the midrange TE1 equation in fantasy.

Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the 189th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Huddle Up: Leonard seems to be on track to be the No. 3 quarterback for the Colts in 2025 with Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones competing for the starting job. He has the chance to become a starter in the future but can be avoided in fantasy leagues at this time.

Kansas State RB DJ Giddens was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the 151st overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Huddle Up: Giddens probably will not see much playing time behind Jonathan Taylor but could compete for the No. 2 running back job during training camp. He probably can be avoided in leagues this upcoming season unless Taylor suffers an injury.

Indianapolis Colts TE Tyler Warren was "targeted" by the team for months leading up to the draft, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder, who says that with his skills as both a blocker and pass catcher, Warren will "rarely leave the field" as a rookie.
Huddle Up: The days of rookie tight ends failing to make an impact are over as we've seen in recent years with Kyle Pitts (68-1,026-1), Sam LaPorta (86-889-10), and Brock Bowers (112-1,194-5) all delivering TE1 value right out of the gate. Warren has a chance to join them after the Colts finished last in the NFL in tight end receptions a year ago. His blocking should help open things up for Jonathan Taylor, and his hands could make him a nice intermediate target for Anthony Richardson (or even Daniel Jones). There's TE1 potential here, though he might be better viewed as a TE2 entering the season.

Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. (back) opted against back surgery this offseason and told reporters on Tuesday, April 22, that he was cleared to play and practice in March.
Huddle Up: Between his early-season back injury and the erratic play of Anthony Richardson, Pittman was facing long odds in terms of meeting expectations in fantasy in 2024. Assuming the back is no longer an issue, the Colts should get slightly better play at the quarterback position this season - whether it comes in the form of Richardson improving as a result of working with a biometrics coach or Daniel Jones playing well enough to win the job. Regardless, Pittman should be considered a decent fantasy WR3 option in early drafts.

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard said he believes there is a good chance that both QB Anthony Richardson and QB Daniel Jones will see playing time in 2025.
Huddle Up: Richardson and Jones will compete for the starting job leading up to the 2025 season, so fantasy players will need to monitor the situation. Richardson likely has more fantasy value than Jones at this point, but neither may be more than a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson will not ask for a trade even though the team is adding QB Daniel Jones to compete with him, according to his agent.
Huddle Up: Richardson's play has been inconsistent since entering the NFL but will have a chance to compete with Jones for the starting job during training camp. Fantasy players should keep an eye on the situation because Richardson will have some fantasy value if he plays.

Free-agent QB Daniel Jones (Vikings) agreed to a one-year, $14 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts Tuesday, March 11. The deal can be worth $17.7 million and includes $13.15 million fully guaranteed.
Huddle Up: He'll be in the running to start with Anthony Richardson on a solid roster. Whoever wins the job could be a matchup play most weeks and a solid QB2.

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Daniel Jones is expected to receive the most interest from the Vikings and Indianapolis Colts when free agency begins, according to a source.
Huddle Up: Jones probably will not be able to find a guaranteed starting job in free agency but probably will have the chance to compete for a starting job with a team. He will be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in leagues if he starts in 2025.

Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson plans to work out with Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen at some point this offseason, according to NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe.
Huddle Up: Richardson is expected to have competition for the starting job next season so working with Allen should help him improve his play. He is a solid fantasy option when playing and could be at least a high-end No. 2 quarterback if he starts.

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson will indeed face an open competition for the starting job after previous speculation, general manager Chris Ballard confirmed Tuesday, Feb. 25. The Colts will bring in a player to challenge him, likely in free agency, according to The Athletic's Zak Keefer.
Huddle Up: Richardson has flashed a few times as a pro, but injuries and erratic play have him fighting for the starting gig. Taking a step forward in Year 3 starts with fending off the unnamed competition by way of being more accurate as a passer. One has to expect the organization prefers the former first-rounder wins given the investment. Until we know more, the reality is Richardson's fantasy draft stock is at its lowest point over his short career.

Indianapolis Colts WR Adonai Mitchell finished 149th of 158 receivers (min. 10 targets) in catch percentage last season at 41.8%. Nonetheless, the Colts remain bullish on his ability to be a good receiver. "Just young. Like any young player, there's going to be a maturation process with him. And he definitely had some really strong moments, but we need more consistent moments from him," general manager Chris Ballard said last month.
Huddle Up: Mitchell did not get much help from Anthony Richardson, but his quarterback's accuracy issues were only part of the problem. His drop rate on 55 targets wasn't bad (7.3%), but he also didn't help himself with the occasional sloppy route. Mitchell is a freaky athlete but a raw receiver, so he should get plenty of time to prove himself so long as he continues to show some growth. It might be a bit premature to put him on sleeper lists for next season, but it wouldn't be shocking if he ended up doubling last year's reception total (23).

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor ranked third in the NFL with 859 rushing yards before contact during the 2024 season.
Huddle Up: Taylor missed a few games because of injury but still finished fourth in the league with 1,431 rushing yards. He should continue to be a significant part of the Colts offense next season and should be a weekly starting option in all leagues.

Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson told ESPN.com's Stephen Holder that he expects to work with biometric expert Chris Hess this offseason. Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen recently credited Hess as being "the most influential person in my mechanical career" after Hess refined some parts of Allen's throwing motion during the early part of his pro career.
Huddle Up: Richardson saw his completion percentage drop to 47.7% in his first extended action as a pro in 2024 (11 games) after logging just four starts as a rookie. Allen noted that Hess helped him realize that his hip was too often out in front of his arm when throwing, which largely contributed to how often he was inaccurate in his early years with the Bills. It should come as no surprise if Hess reaches a similar conclusion about Richardson, who is a massively talented player with relatively little football experience and poor fundamentals. The good thing about Richardson this season - as it relates to fantasy - is that his cost will be low enough to draft as a QB2, which should be enough to make him a massive bargain if Hess can work his magic on him.

Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson likely will have competition for the quarterback job next season, according to general manager Chris Ballard. Ballard said Richardson needs to work on his durability and accuracy this offseason.
Huddle Up: Richardson was limited to 11 games this season and has only played 15 games in two seasons. He has thrown 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in those games and has a completion percentage of 50.6%. His running ability helps his value and probably will be the leading candidate for the job during training camp. He can be at least a high-end No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he starts next season.

Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. (back) will not need to undergo back surgery this offseason, according to general manager Chris Ballard.
Huddle Up: Pittman was on the injury report for most of the season because of the injury, but it seems like rest will help the injury heal. He saw his numbers dip this season but should still be a big part of the passing game next season. He likely will be drafted in all fantasy leagues next season.

Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. (back) said he played this season with a fractured back and that he may need offseason surgery to repair the injury.
Huddle Up: Pittman did see his numbers drop in 2024, but the injury likely was a factor in his play. He should be ready for the start of training camp if he does undergo surgery and probably will be one of the main options in the passing game in 2025. He can be at least a flex option in most weeks next season.
